A Race to AI Dominance

This year has been filled with exciting announcements and releases, and this week continues the trend!

Gemini for Google Workspace

Google announced at their “Gemini At Work” event this week the standalone Gemini app will be included in Workspace Business, Enterprise, and Frontline plans, providing AI-powered assistance with robust, enterprise-grade data protection. Organizations maintain full control over their data, with assurances that Gemini does not use any user information for model training.

In addition to AI integration, Google is rolling out a Security Advisor — a toolkit designed to deliver tailored security insights, guidance, and data protection controls. This feature is being gradually introduced to all Workspace Business customers to help combat the growing complexity of cyberthreats.

Apple Intelligence: Unlocking New Possibilities?

Apple has rolled out the latest iOS 18.1 Beta 5 for developers and Beta 2, with a full public release expected in October. This update introduces advanced AI tools, including new writing tools, upgraded Siri, but it will initially only be available to devices where Siri and device language are set to US English.

Compatible Devices:

Apple Intelligence will be supported on any iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or later, as well as iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices.

Release Timeline:
  • The iOS 18.1 public release is set for October, but limited to US English settings.

  • iOS 18.2 will follow in December, extending Apple Intelligence to other countries like the UK and Canada.

With the race on to integrate AI, Apple is set to give us more with further global releases expected in 2025, although there’s no word yet on availability in the EU.

ChatGPT’s New Voice and Image Features

On Tuesday OpenAI said they had started rolling out new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT, offering a more intuitive, interactive experience for users. With these updates, you can now have conversations with ChatGPT using voice and show it images to enhance your interactions. The new features are available for users on subscription, to Plus and Enterprise users, rollout will occur over the next two weeks.

New Features:
  • Voice capabilities will be available on iOS and Android devices.

  • Image capabilities, allowing users to upload and discuss images.

  • Voice Conversations: Speak with ChatGPT in real-time using one of five different voices.

  • Image Input: Share one or more images with ChatGPT 

  • Multimodal Support: GPT-4’s image analysis is now enhanced, allowing the assistant to understand complex visuals like graphs or screenshots.

As these new features roll out, who is using ChatGPT? The latest figures show there are 180 million users, with 600 million visits a month. With AI exploding into people's consciousness over the past few years, we will have to wait and see how ChatGPT will continue to expand its reach.
